Challenge

Precise, reliable and transparent information

A leading food manufacturer operating in the FMCG sector needed to improve its financial and business controlling processes and its Corporate Finance reporting. After the company was acquired by the Mid Europa Partners fund, the key objective was to provide reliable, precise and transparent financial and operational information to the Management Board, owners and managers.

The company faced a number of challenges, including:

  • A long monthly reporting cycle and limited data reliability.
  • A lack of consistency in financial and operational reporting across departments and business lines.
  • The need to integrate a new business segment after the acquisition of Jurajska.
  • Low efficiency of budgeting and forecasting processes, which did not reflect the complexity of sales and cost structures in the FMCG industry.

Solution

FlexiEPM as a response to the needs of the FMCG industry

The implementation of FlexiEPM enabled full integration of management reporting, budgeting and forecasting processes in the Hortex Group. The system was designed to meet the requirements of a dynamic FMCG environment and to ensure data transparency and consistency.

  • Comprehensive financial and operational controlling model: Integration of financial reporting (income statement, cash flow, balance sheet) with operational controlling models covering, among others, sales and transport, production and marketing costs.
  • Advanced planning tools: Predefined templates allow Key Account Managers to plan sales at SKU and customer level, with automatic calculation of operating margin based on trading terms, promotions and discounts.

In addition, FlexiEPM provided:

  • System calculations:
    • Detailed settlements covering price lists, trading terms, promotions and retrospective discounts.
    • Margin budgeting using standard cost rates and transport costs.
    • Automatic import of parameters from SAP R/3 or their entry into dedicated templates.
  • Integrated planning model:
    • Consolidation of partial budgets from different business areas, ensuring consistent P&L reporting at Group level.
    • Detailed budgets for sales, headcount and payroll, as well as production, transport, marketing, selling and general administrative costs.
  • Financial reporting and consolidation module:
    • Support for monthly reporting of the Group’s financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow).
    • An integrated model for planning cash flow using the direct method, linked to the budgets and forecasts prepared by controlling.

Benefits

Shorter reporting time and integrated planning

  • Integrated planning and reporting: Partial budgets from sales, production, marketing, logistics and overheads were consolidated at Group level, ensuring consistent P&L reporting.
  • Precise margin and cost forecasting: The system enables sales planning at SKU and customer level for more than 1,500 products, taking into account detailed cost parameters and trading terms.
  • Strategic support: The reporting module generates precise financial data and allows business scenarios to be tested, supporting the Management Board in decision-making.
  • Integrated SAP environment: FlexiEPM works fully with SAP R/3 and SAP BW, importing key financial and operational parameters.

With FlexiEPM, the company gained a tool that significantly improved its controlling and reporting processes. Transparent data enables faster and better strategic decisions, while automated margin calculations and integration with SAP have increased operational efficiency. The system also enabled the effective integration of a new business segment after the acquisition, strengthening the company’s market position.
